Gifts

I started reading the Book of Common Prayer again. I have been attending an Episcopalian church that I love, but I really need to know why I love it. I find the prayers in the Book of Common Prayer very useful..the prayers articulate feelings better than I.

My greatest fear is that I reach old age and I have not used every gift that God has given me to its fullest, or I have not followed God's call. For that I pray:

For the Right Use of God's Gifts:
"Almighty God, whose loving hand hath given us all that we posess: Grant us grace that we may honor thee with our substance, and, remembering the account which we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of thy bounty, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen."

Wow ... thirty years in the Episcopal church, including a stint as a teacher of Spiritual Gifts Class, and I have never read that prayer before. It is so beautiful! Thank you for finding it. The BCP is inspiring.
