Ok, I have a few "Mommy" questions. I could probably find the answer to these questions by googling or by reading instructions, but I trust my friends and family sources more.
1) Do you keep the bumper on the crib or do you take it off? Ian is starting to move around a lot in the crib and I think I heard somewhere that you take the bumper off, but he is also hitting and bruising his head.
2) Can you still purchase Johnny Jump Ups? I need one desperately as Ian is currently using my stomach and legs as his trampoline.
3) When is it safe to run with a baby in the jogger?
4) When do dogs stop acting like puppies and start acting like lazy dogs? Pippin is driving me crazy. He turns two in November. I am hoping his "insane" button turns off soon.

Yay, fun questions!
1. I left my bumper on, but experts say to take them off. There is a worry of suffication at Ian's age, and then when they are older and pulling up that they use the bumper as a step to climb out. You basically have to weigh the bruises and limbs getting stuck through crib bars vs. the likelyhood of them getting stuck with their face up against the bumper and not being able to turn their head to breathe. Aubrey wasn't a roller, she stayed on her back when she was Ian's age so I didn't really worry about her getting stuck with her face in the bumper. Now she buries her face in it while she sleeps and can breathe fine.

This is probably tied for number one most wonderful baby product I ever bought. Totally worth the cost. It was the only way I got anything done age 4-9 months. :)
3. Six months. Before that you risk shaken baby syndrome.
4. It probably varies from dog to dog, but it was 2years for ours. I did a little googling of corgis and it looks like it might be closer to 3 for Pippen...
Hi Liz-
This is Abi Chapman's friend Kate (met you when you came to England). I enjoy reading your blog and seeing pics of your cute son. Here are my responses... we have a 10 month old son.
1) I have always read that crib bumpers are a SIDS risk so we never used them. My suggestion would be to take them off.
3) I have a baby jogger and I believe it is safe to take a baby in it when he can hold up his head. Although after three months I have had some friends who put the baby in it and then put a lot of towels around their head to keep it supported.
Good luck!
1. I took it off for Alexander and kept it on for CJ until she was about 1 yr old. I agree with Becky's advice.
2. Oh yes. If you can't find one, I'll send you my old one.
3. I don't run. HA!
4. Ripley was puppy girl until about 3.
GOOD LUCK!
1. I never used bumpers. The crib didn't look as cute, but when I was pregnant my doctor told me that I would only be able to use them for a short time (until Magnolia could roll) so I didn't end up buying them. Maggie did get her arm stuck twice, but it was nothing serious and I could hear her crying and could tell it wasn't the normal cry. My friend was telling me about some kind of mesh that is safe to use for the crib that will prevent arms and legs from getting stuck, but I never looked into it.
2. Yes! They still make them. I borrowed one from my mom (not sure where she found it) and Magnolia loved it. We also had the "Baby Einstein Musical Motion Activity Jumper" that she loved. It was well worth the price.
3. I've heard 6 months, although I didn't get a jogger until just a few months ago
4. Not sure about the last one, but I'm ready for both our dogs to enter the lazy stage.
Hey Liz, I'm a friend of Tim's from back when his family lived in Shreveport, LA (like 13 years ago). Tim gave me your blog address and I enjoy reading it to keep up with you guys (love seeing the pictures too!). Ian is adorable! I have a little girl, Lilliana; she's almost 9 months old.
These are great questions.
1) This one's a toss up. I like Becky's answer too. I think it's a judgement call. When mine was so little that suffacation was a concern (1) she wasn't able to roll around in her bed and (2)we used a sleep positioner to keep her in one spot so essentially the possiblity of her getting too close to the bumper and not being able to breathe wasn't a concern/possibility. As soon as she was able to move around in bed then she's also of age where she knows to moves her head if she's too close to the bumper. Our bed lowers to several different positions so it would be quite a while before mine could use the bumper as a step and be able to climb out. I guess if we had the bed on the lowest setting and we thought she'd still be able to use the bumper to climb out then we'd remove the bumper at that time. We still have ours on for now. I tried removing it once and didn't like it. Without it she thinks that it's play time when she gets in bed and she rolls to the side, tries to peek through the bars and stick her hands and feet through and she just plays.
2) I like Becky's answer again. We have the Fisher Price Rainforest Jumperoo and it's really fun. Lilliana really loves it...she just jumps and plays and gets so excited.
